THE HUMAN-AI TEAM – A DOG’S TALE

Algorithms support compliance through, for example, managing intermediates, web-based training, tracking regulations, monitoring conduct, flagging high-risk payments, and more. But this technology also poses a risk factor.

It is important to understand that intelligent algorithms are not acting independently, but are deeply integrated into human processes. Erik Brynjofsson, director of Digital Economy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), said: “AI (artificial intelligence) won’t be able to replace most jobs anytime soon. But in almost every industry, people using AI are starting to replace people who don’t use AI, and that trend will only accelerate.” Paul Ryan, a partner at Deloitte Cyber Software and Services, goes one step further, stating: “Every major decision, business and personal, will be made with the assistance of cognitive technologies.”

Between 100,000 and 15,000 BC, the first curious wolf decided to get into closer contact with humans, attracted by the prospect of food. The result became a classic symbiosis. The wolf gave up its freedom for regular food, while humans had to share their limited food but gained a guardian for themselves and their livestock. The creature advanced from the first to the third level of Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’. Dogs acknowledge the human as ‘alpha’ and assume the role of ‘beta’. They not only became an important guardian, but also a source of stress relief.
