Bill Ryan is senior vice president and chief compliance officer at AT&T, where he leads the company’s global compliance function. With over two decades of legal and compliance experience, he focuses on navigating complex regulatory environments while fostering a culture of integrity and accountability. Since becoming AT&T’s chief compliance officer in 2023, he has driven innovation by integrating AI and emerging technologies to enhance risk detection, streamline workflows and enable agile processes. Mr Ryan helped establish a comprehensive enterprise risk programme at AT&T by aligning compliance with broader risk frameworks, integrating operational, legal, financial and reputational risks into a unified governance model that is designed to support strategic resilience and long-term business sustainability. A frequent speaker on AI, data ethics and legal innovation, Mr Ryan emphasises the importance of moral courage and human judgment in an automated world. He served on the board of the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, was the founding board chairman for Valor Academy Charter School, volunteers with various nonprofits, and is a Teach for America alumnus. Mr Ryan is fluent in Spanish and passionate about mentoring future leaders and advancing risk and compliance with purpose and impact.
